Trigger Point Management for Pain Patients
Kang Yoon-Kyoo

Abstract
Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is extremely common and may become a painful part of many people¡¯s lifetime. Myofacial trigger points in the skeletal muscle may cause referred pain, limited range of motion and various autonomic symptoms, thus leading to the misdiagnosis of MPS as bursitis, tendinitis, impingement syndrome, radiculopathy, peripheral nerve entrapment syndrome, or degenerative arthritis. Pain drawing, which is considered the most important step in history taking, may provide integral information about the patient¡¯s pain and allow an accurate diagnosis of the myofascial trigger point. As MPS can be treated effectively with trigger point pressure release, trigger point injection, physical therapy and stretching exercises, accurate diagnosis is essential for the treatment of pain. Thus, with adequate knowledge of MPS diagnosis and treatment, management of pain patients can be very effective and rewarding.
